Outdoor First Aid Emergency Action
Course Overview
This course covers the essentials of managing immediate, potentially life threatening incidents in a systematic manner. Ideal for anyone who may be required to take charge at an incident. This 8-hour course is suitable for some Outdoor Instructor awards. The modular progressive training programme allows this Unit to be the first module of a 16-hour Outdoor First Aid course. This is the 8 hr course that the RYA and BCU instructors need as a minimum.

Course Content
- Vital Signs – breathing, level of consciousness, temperature, colour
- Incident Management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents
- Airway Management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse
- Breathing Problems – choking
- Circulation Problems – Internal bleeding, external bleeding and treatment for shock
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Drowning
- Hypothermia and Hyperthermia
- Awareness of current regulations
- Safe best practice

Delivery
Experienced professional trainer/assessors with an active professional interest in First Aid training, coming from a variety of working backgrounds understanding the specific needs of various environments. Our trainer/assessors are constantly updating their methods and materials keeping abreast of current best practice from around the world. Trainer/assessors typically have knowledge of the outdoor workplace workplace and follow Health and Safety approved code of practice guidelines.
Revalidation
This qualification ‘license to practice’ is revalidated by attending another Outdoor Emergency Action course in 3 years time.
