ITC Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid – (QCF)

Course Overview

This course is for those who might have to identify and manage emergency situations or manage minor everyday occurrences when looking after young children. This qualification meets Ofsted requirements for those working in early years settings and uses the criteria for effective paediatric first aid training found in Appendix 1 of The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Practice Guidance document.

The current EYFS statutory framework requires at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate to be on the premises or outings at all times when children are present.

Course Content

  1. A systematic approach to incident management
  2. Infant, Child and Adult Resuscitation procedures
  3. Choking
  4. Bleeding – internal/external, major/minor
  5. Shock – hypovolemic and anaphylactic
  6. Hypothermia and hyperthermia
  7. Febrile convulsions
  8. Treating Damage – suspected fractures, head, neck and back injuries
  9. Eye injuries and foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses
  10. Bites and stings
  11. Poisoning
  12. Burns and scalds
  13. Electric shock
  14. Common illness – epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell anaemia, diabetes
